Pet portraits are the perfect way to memorialize a loved animal in a one of a kind fiber art piece!
Growing up on a farm myself with pets such as everything from geese to horses, I know how special an animal can be! And I understand how hard it can be when a pet of many years is gone. Pet portraits capture the details and personality of that loved creature, and I strive to put the love in time into each portrait as if it was my own!
These portraits are created with hand dyed wool from my childhood home, where my parents still raise Shetland sheep, and care for dogs, chickens, a miniature horse, and a goose. Wool is hand sheared, carted, dyed, and processed by my mom from her small flock, often dyed with natural ingredients like turmeric.
Hand felted and embroidered using the technique “thread painting,” pet portraits match the a picture of your pet as closely as possible. Considerations when choosing a picture for me to work off of:
– Natural lighting is best
– Try to take the photo at eye level, this is most flattering for your pet
– Take as high of quality as possible
– Send multiple photos from different angles, this helps me with unique markings on your pet, textures, and characteristics
If all you have are old photos, I can work from these as well!
If you would like to add something special to your pet keepsake, I can add in some actual hair from your pet right into the portrait. This option does include the extra step of mailing me the fur or hair you would like used for this special touch. Please message me if this is something you are interested in so we can work out the details!
Hoops can be painted any color, stained light, medium, dark, or left natural. Please specify your choice stain in the comment of your order, or, if you have something else in mind, such as a solid color paint, let me know and I would be happy to help! Hoops come finished and backed with an accenting fabric. If you would like a date or name included and stitched below the pet or on the back, please include the specifications in the comment section of the order.
Due to the custom nature of these hoops, processing time varies but usually stays between 4-10 weeks. I strive to give each portrait my individual time and attention, and will communicate shipping times accordingly. Hoops are NON REFUNDABLE if I have started stitching. If you have a deadline (birthday, anniversary, etc.) on your hoop, please communicate that with me before placing an order and I will try my best to meet that deadline.
Please reach out to me with any questions regarding these portraits!
I look forward to capturing your loved pet in thread!
