14 karat yellow and white gold black opal pendant. Set in the center is an oval black opal (I am assuming it is a doublet as the mounting will not allow me to fully examine the opal). Bending over backward around the opal is a yellow gold mermaid with her arm wrapped around an anchor. The opal measures approximately 8.81mm x 6.70mm and has a dark body color with flashes of blue and green play of color. Set in the white gold anchor is one full cut round brilliant diamond weighing approximately 0.05 carats. The bale of the pendant is a necklace enhancer that can be opened and attached to a pearl or bead necklace. The pendant measures approximately 1-1/4 inches in length. The mermaid is enhanced by a satin finish and a textured fin.
Dorothy Gallun founded Dorothy Gallun Jewelry in Wisconsin in 1950. Patty Gallun Hansen, is Dorothy’s daughter and is now in continuing the business her mother loved so much. Patty graduated and earned her Graduate Gemologist degree in residency at the Gemological Institute of America in California. As a graduate gemologist, Patty and her gold smith inspect all jewelry before listing it for sale. The quality of stones and method of construction are all determined. Once an item is sold, and before we send it out, our goldsmith checks the item to make sure prongs are tight and the item is cleaned and polished.
